Foxearth Fete – June 2018

“The sun has got his hat on – shout hip hip hooray” was one of the well -known themes the Harmonious Haverhill Silver Band played for us on the 23rd June at the Foxearth Summer Fete; and how appropriate it was! On a lovely warm afternoon the band entertained with a varied selection of music – performed with expert precision and expression – whilst a large attendance, from the village and beyond, enjoyed burgers, tea and delicious cakes, a Pimms bar and wandered around the usual array of stalls. For those who liked a flutter there was a tombola and a raffle. A bouncy castle mopped up the energy of the youngsters and there were games requiring feats of accuracy.

An innovation this year was the Dashing Dog Show, masterminded and judged by our own “Herriot” Jenny Fitch-Holland. This event attracted a large number of assorted canines who proved to be well-behaved and friendly – just like their owners. Five classes were judged ; 1 The dog with the waggiest tail, 2 The dog who looks most like its owner (it might be embarrassing to delve further into that), 3 Veteran, 4 The dog the judge would most like to take home – and 5 Best 6 legs (what influence did the owner have on this we wonder), No “top of the show” but a few rosettes were seen.

Once again we are indebted to Louise and Nick for the opportunity to invade their lovely gardens and for the great help they gave on the day. As always it was a team effort and we thank everyone involved. Mostly we grateful to all of you who came along and contributed to the magnificent result of around £1,500 for Foxearth Parish Church.
