Philip Savage 1971 – 2014

On a cold but bright Friday afternoon, on the 19th December, the funeral of Phil Savage took place at the crematorium in Bury St Edmunds. Phil, a young man, married and with two small children had obviously touched many people’s lives. It was standing room only, with so many people wishing to pay their respects but also to show Lorna, his wife, how much they cared and supported her.

The service was very personal to Lorna and Phil with much of their favourite music being played,  all of it having special meaning to moments of their lives together. Lorna read a tribute to Phil as did his brother Andy.

Popular members of our community, Phil, known to many as “Sav”, married Lorna in November 2006. From living in The Chase, they moved into Chapel House and renovated and extended, a venture not without incident including the ceiling falling down necessitating them to camp out. The building also suffered some flooding. Both of them took these incidents in their stride, both smiling through it all, determined to enjoy their home with their children, Lawson and Tawney and always welcoming others in to share their pleasure.

Phil fell seriously ill and despite undergoing heroic treatment, sadly died on the 27th November. At his funeral, a standing congregation gave him an extended round of applause as a mark of the appreciation we all felt for the impact he had on our lives.

He will be sorely missed and our sincere condolences go to Lorna and to Lawson and Tawney for their sad loss.
