Some Enchanted Evening

On Saturday night, 16th February in Foxearth Village Hall, a supper cabaret took place where a full and appreciative house enjoyed an  evening of wine, food and song. The music was delivered by “ShowVoxes”, a talented quartet of young singers from the London College of Music, directed with his usual brio by our very own Ian McMillan on keyboard.

We were entertained by, and often joined in on, songs from the shows of Rodgers and Hammerstein including Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific and The Sound of Music. You might have had to be of a certain age to know all the lyrics but judging by the number who joined in with gusto or simply mouthed the words, the enduring popularity of these works is without doubt.

Our singers, Libby Turner, Laura Williams, Jack Feureisen and Rob West threw themselves into the action, being hokey Oklahoman one minute, upright Austrians the next and then US sailors, singing and acting with verve and confidence that won over the hearts and admiration of the audience.

Slightly disturbing was the appearance of some distinctly ”dodgy” looking nuns especially when one of them came out of the Gents Loo!  They were outnumbered by cowboys, farm workers and a sprinkling of lederhosen with prizes going to the best costumes.

We were greeted with a cocktail which was  followed by a supper of ‘Hopi’ beef and cornbread, followed by Key Lime Pie .

A thoroughly enjoyable and ‘Enchanted Evening’.
