Foxearth Fete – A Great Success

It was with considerable relief that the organisers watched as the sun finally made an appearance on the very morning of the Foxearth Village Fete. For once we could erect the stalls and sideshows without worrying whether it was going to rain on our parade.

With the dreadful weather washing out so many events this summer and a cloud burst just the day before, we were indeed fortunate.

The fete was well attended this year notably by visitors from out of town who may well have been taking advantage of the better weather to get out and about.

The Long Melford Silver Band proved to be a star attraction. Their high standard of musicality coupled with a most engaging repertoire caused many visitors to remark on how pleasant an atmosphere it had generated and which had had the effect of putting everyone at their ease.

Our thanks must go to Jean Douglas-Hughes for her kind offer to engage the band and to meet their fee and to both Roger and Jean Douglas-Hughes for making their grounds and kitchen available for the event.

It is with great satisfaction (not to say relief) that the organisers can claim a great success given that the amount raised is a record for the event at £1,228.00. This will be split between Foxearth Church and Foxearth Village Hall.

There are too many people to thank by name but you know who you are and the organisers would like to express their gratitude for your efforts (and please please show up again next year). We would however like to make an exception by recognising Val Hastie’s considerable contribution at this year’s fete as has been the case in so many previous fetes as well as countless other events throughout the years.

We look forward to seeing you again next year.
