Rodbridge to Cavendish Road is Finally Reclassified

Well it took the best part of four years but if you had occasion to travel to Sudbury in the last few days, you may have noticed that the signage for the Rodbridge-Cavendish road has been altered to reflect the fact that this road in now no longer the B1064.

As we have stressed before, FLAG does not expect an immediate cessation of through LGV’s using this route but we do expect a reduction over time as the road is gradually removed from LGV in-cab navigation systems. Furthermore, now that the route is no longer part of ECC Highways Strategic Road Network, the option opens up for the residents to make a case for an environmental weight limit in the future in the event that through LGVs persist in using this route. FLAG will continue to monitor the situation and respond as necessary once the situation becomes clearer.

Given the concerns raised regarding the maintenance of winter de-icing post reclassification, it was particularly gratifying to see that this service has been in evidence during the current cold weather.

We at FLAG would like to express our appreciation for the support we have received from our County Council representative David Finch and to ECC Highways for their work in helping to determine the view of the majority in supporting this project.
